Perry's Steakhouse & Grille

A steak dinner — with all the fixings — is one of life’s greatest pleasures. And the super-swanky Perry’s Steakhouse at Oakbrook Centre is a destination that aims to please the person, the palette — even the picky.

Walking into Perry’s Steakhouse is like entering into an exclusive, exquisite club. Dim lighting, dark finishes and soaring wine cellars set the mood for a sophisticated dining experience. Despite the soft lighting, a cooler showcasing the restaurant’s USDA-aged prime beef, which is hand selected and cut fresh daily, serves as the focal point and illuminates the arrival experience.

Seating options include an outdoor patio with umbrellas and a fire pit when the weather permits, a lively indoor bar featuring live lounge music four nights a week, and a sprawling dining room with a combination of intimate booths and tables, all covered with white linen. There are also two private dining areas for large groups.

Perry’s menu is full of substance and checks every culinary box. Service begins with a loaf of complimentary toasted bread and delectable whipped butter. Starters include steakhouse staples like shrimp cocktail and escargot, but it’s the bacon-wrapped scallops — which come four to an order — that patrons crave. For me, there’s nothing quite like starting a steak dinner off with a classic wedge salad. Iceberg lettuce comes out cold and piled high with bacon, onion and bleu cheese crumbles — a refreshing start indeed.

While you can certainly find an array of simple, classic steak cuts at Perry’s, try a coveted bone-in filet for additional flavor and marbling or the Filet Perry, which comes wrapped with Applewood smoked bacon, topped with jumbo lump crabmeat, and served with asparagus. Spring for a trio of Béarnaise sauce, peppercorn reduction, and truffle Merlot demiglace for $7 to enhance the meat’s flavor.

Though the steak is not to be missed, the pork chop is among the bestselling menu items. At seven fingers in height, this slow-roasted dish is carved tableside for an even more memorable dining experience.

Dress up dinner with tantalizing side options, prepared family style. Can’t decide between potato or macaroni and cheese? Have the best of both worlds — au gratin potatoes, chopped and layered with rich, melted white cheddar. The Sriracha-coated Brussels sprouts are roasted to a crispy perfection with just the right amount of sweetness and spice.

Wines are conveniently listed by price and a robust cocktail list includes crowd-favorite, the Cucumber Blueberry Martini. But don’t feel like you have to settle on just one; a Pick-Three option is available for $15.

A stand-out dessert is the Rocky Road butterscotch bread pudding topped with a giant homemade marshmallow. A trio featuring mini servings of crème brulée, praline cheesecake and a chocolate crunch is also an option for the indecisive sweet tooth.
